This week's Asian Meal will be Korean. I've had this place recommended by two people, and I don't know any other Korean restaurants, so the choice was easy this week ;)
Seoul CitySchwieberdinger Strasse 198
70435 Stuttgart
It's in the Neuwirtshaus Hotel, which is close-ish to Neuwirtshaus S-Bahn station, aka Porscheplatz S-bahn station (on line S6).
I've linked a google map
here .
There are driving instructions
as a PDF.
If anyone is driving and has space in their car for passengers to/from central Stuttgart (or wherever) please post here so that anyone who's carless can arrange sharing if needed. I've no idea if the route there from downtown is hilly (it probably is), but I might cycle if the weather's OK. As you're allowed to take bikes onto the S-Bahn I may do that.
7:30pm this Wednesday. See you all there! Post here if interested; if the numbers look high then I'll ring on Wednesday to reserve a table.

I know this area quite well as I work here and it is a bit of a lonely trek from the S Bahn to the restaurant (along side a busy road). The S Bahn (line 6 to Weil der Stadt) leaves hauptbahnhof at 19:11 and thereafter every 30mins. May I suggest that all interested meet me at Neuwirtshaus Station at 19:30 (arrival time of the 19:11) there is a small seating area on the platform we can all congregate there and then walk the 15 min journey together. In which case I think we should book the meal for 19:45. The return trains leave Neuwirtshaus every 30 mins at 01 and 31 past the hour.

Or take the train arriving at 19:00 and be 15 minutes early ;)
As all my other meals have been 7:30 I'll probably just stick with that and the non bahners can grab an aperitif before ordering the food when the rest arrive. How's that?

Hi all,
I'll be there - late though. I'm picking up a fellow TTer and straggler so you can add two to the list. Since I have such a huge car, anyone else who wants a ride will have to fold up in the trunk area.
Adrian, tried sending you a message but I'm telling you, I'm forum retarded... Let me know if you got it.
See all of you on Wednesday, especially the newbies...
Later,

Hi again... same time, different place... I'll be there.
Can come to the station direct from work so see the walkers there...

I've been cycling around on my 28mm slicks and, apart from the fact the bike doesn't like stopping or cornering when in the forest or even the gravel around Schlossplatz (grazed hands to prove it!) I never got a puncture. Including riding almost every day through central London for two years.
I change to (expensive!) Schwalbe trekking tyres, nice and grippy, meant to be very puncture resistant, and ... I cycle to Bad Cannstatt and back and get a f/cking puncture. Not happy. If a change of inner tube is all I need (rather than new tyre) then I'll stick with my cycling plan. Otherwise I'll also be with the bahners and will see you all at 7.30 at the station, and 7.45 at the restaurant!

Somebody needs a Nav system, although to be honest even they can be flakey as mine demonstrated over the wekend by shutting down in the middle of town for 10 minutes before it came back up again!!!

Hi Adrian
Is it still possible to get myself a place for the dinner? I'm craving for some Korean food!
Just a side note for you Korean foodies! If you are craving for some Kim Chi, there is this Korean Supermarket by the Arndt-Spittastraße U Bahn station that makes fresh Kim Chin and sells them by the jar. REALLY GOOD STUFF!

Woooaaaah.
I just saw this and am going into hyperdrive... my senses are floating on a kimchi lathered haze... the words "kham sam nida" appear formlessly from the void... I am impelled helplessly towards this Spittastrasse. I once survived a week of being homesick in London through the healing power of kimchi, and that was just the plastic-packed version from Chinatown.
If anyone is ever in Geneva, the woman at the Japanese grocery shop in the Paquis used to sell homemade kimchi too.

There's a great Korean shop recommended by someone in my "Asian food markets in Stuttgart" thread. They also sell Kimchi. Depending on where you live, that could be more (or less) convenient.

Thanks everyone! There were 11 of us. Food was good (although Leo will probably mention where it wasn't authentic, for me who's never been to Korea it was fine!), and the service was very friendly.
As the token greedy person, the main waitress decided she could clear the table quicker if she just started taking the plates away, after emptying the remaining contents on to my plate. No complaints there!
It may be the only Korean restaurant in Stuttgart (dunno if that's true, but could be) and a bit out of the way, but if you need Korean food or just fancy a beer with some kimchi, then Seoul City is the place.
I cycled back home and was winning the race, but some dodgy Swiss registered car overtook me after I had to slow down near a police van ;) Otherewise I would have won, honest.
There will be a new thread for this, but the next Asian Meal night will be next Wednesday at 7:30. Not picked a cuisine yet.

How about that one:
http://www.restaurant-lilie.de/Google
map.
I found 5 reviews for Lilie, in German:
http://www.qype.com/place/6444-Indonesisch...Lilie-Stuttgart2 of them negative, 3 positiv.
You'll find a complete price list on the Lilie web site, in German. Prices range from ~ 3 Euro until 17.80. No, i'm not lying. The 17.80 one for a 2-course dinner with an additional appetizer plus dessert, but this one only for at least 2 persons. And for 17.80 each person. According to the Speisekarte (menu) on their web site (in German) you can select a special rice mix if you tell them before.
Wednesdays closed!!
I was there just once, a year ago or so. It was excellent, IIRC ... Didn't have the two-coursed one tho' ... ; And I enjoyed their beer ...

Those who want *real* Indonesian food - what ever that might mean - exactly like you might find it in Indonesia: not sure, if Lilie is right for them. Because on
http://www.restaurant-lilie.de/wir.htmthe owner hints something like they'd see themselves as a mix between local and foreign live. Whatever that means.
QUOTE
Unsere Lilie versteht sich als Familienbetrieb, der mit der Kombination von Fremdem und Einheimischem ein Stück kulturelle Integration betreibt - auf angenehmste Weise, über das Essen.
Adrian, Lilie is just a few hundred meters away from Feuersee, so you could have pre-look in just a few minutes time ...

Thanks for the tip. Closed on Wednesdays is not good though ;) Although I do expect most foreign cuisine restaurants to blend their native cuisine in with the local taste and ingredients, it being advertised as such is a bit worrying. I've also been a bit spoilt with some of the good Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam.
However, it's close to me so I'll check it out. I've got a couple of Indonesian friends I can run the menu by, too.
Thanks for the suggestion!

What's wrong: No one has been burned, or even just hurt with a domain name like that. So if you differ please say it it plain English. Might be quite possible I was missing out something, as English isn't my first language. Oh yes: And I'm mocking at myself on a nearly daily basis if I see a nice opportunity for it. Still lots better than making my sick jokes about others. Would you agree?
