Is anyone interested in going to Budapest 2 weekends from now? Eric the Hamster, K1w1, Chris04, and I are trying to plan a trip for that weekend. Below is flight information. Leaving Thursday after work seems like the best plan. Hostels are really cheap, ranging from € 13-20/night. I have to do some more research before I pick the exact hostel we'd stay at. If anyone's been there and has a recommendation that would be great.
Flight details (air berlin)
Depart (18:30)
Leaving Thursday 9th Dec = 59 Euro
Leaving Friday 10th Dec = 79 Euro
Return (16:40)
Leaving Sunday 12th Dec = 69 Euro
Leaving Monday 13th Dec = 59 Euro
Leaving Tuesday 14th Dec = 49 Euro

I'm interested too and can be quite flexible with times/dates coming back...would prefer a longer trip so that we see more though.

Hi.
This trip sounds interesting to me. I guess I'd prefer to leave on Thursday night and return either Sunday or Monday (morning). I was hoping to go to Budapest with a Hungarian friend of mine a few months ago, but that fell through and he has since moved to London.

So far, we're planning on leaving Thursday after work, but that doesn't mean other people couldn't join us a day later.

I stayed at the "Station" for a couple of nights in September. I dunno how to rate backpackers really? We didn't have any bugs in the beds, and didn't get burgled :-)
Any specific requirements? Its basic accommodation!

I tried to stay there (i.e. Station) but it was totally full. I ended up in a hostel near that huge American-style mall (in Pest) and it was one of the best hostels I ever stayed in. I'll try to get the name/address for you...although it was 2+ years ago.

Funnily enough I also stayed at Le Meridien which was kinda more expensive! (but no more fun). I can see that the temperature is only 7 degrees now so not sure somewhere like the Station cannot be relied upon to be warm enough.

@Winegirl, My business trip to Madrid the week after is now on again so if we go to budapest, I will need to fly directly from there to Madrid. I will need to book this flight in the next couple of days so I think we should decide if we are def. going (looks to be enough interest).

@EtH: I'm 100%, so I'm fine with booking. Cool that you get to go to Madrid afterall!
I found a hostels that looks nice and is cheap on www.hostels.com. It's Green Bridge Hostel and Apartments. It has the highest overall rating for Budapest of 88.6%. It looks like a good location, directly on the Danube River. It's €9/night for mixed 8 bed dorms, €13/night for a mixed 6 bed dorm, or €14/night for a 6 bed private room.
Chris04 says she's interested but hasn't said she's definite.

So would love to go, but don't think i can fit it in after all...
my 2cents - are you sure you still want to plan this on such a short term. We initially took this weekend because some people who are leaving Munich by the year's end wanted to come along. Now, since they all dropped out it might be interresting to postpone the trip to January. Easier to take time off for everybody and also the flights will prob be cheaper.

Short notice doesn't bother me. The plane tickets seem pretty cheap and the hostel stay is super cheap. We'll plan another place in Jan. too.

If you go in Jan I would love to come. That, this is my B-Day weekend and I'm pretty sure Robin is going to throw down.
Question? Any special visas needed for Americans to get into Hungary?
@Mbangura - same here, December is a short month and there's just too much going on to go away another weekend.
visa regulations should be pretty much the same across the whol EU, so i'm pretty sure you don't need a visa for Hungary.

@Mbangura
The US State department lists all requirements for US citizens visiting foreign countries. The details for Hungary can be found here...

Hey, let me know if you go in January.
Am having a screw put in my jaw on the 10th, and need to look for a new home, so somehow I don't think I'll make this!

I am interested, but would need to leave on Friday return on Sunday. Would only be able to confirm if I am able in a couple of weeks (depends if I end up going on a ski trip that week-end instead)

hey Smartini, I think you're a bit lost. This trip is cancelled (they are gointo Salzburg for the day instead). The January trip has become a ski trip. We will go to Budapest in the spring probably!
