Furniture and wood working supplies

Where to buy these (not Baywa, OBI, etc.)

Anybody know of a place that carries the thin laminate (Like on a counter top), or the contact paper typically used on the IKEA particleboard furniture.
Also looking for places that carry special sizes of hardwoods and something other than pine boards, like those found in the local hardware stores.

All the usual places (Baywa,Hornbach,OBI,etc) don't carry this stuff, so no need to state these places..

I'm also looking for this kind of stuff, too. I had no problems in the U.S., U.K. or even Japan finding hardwoods. The Germans I've talked to talk vaguely of places in the Black Forest where you can buy stock that isn't cheap pine, but haven't given any concrete answers. Don't the Germans do woodworking as a hobby?

Have you tried talking to a local carpentry shop to ask them where they get their supplies?

Have you tried typing "Holzhandel" in the online version of the "Gelbe Seiten"? It got me 35 reuslts in Munich

Try Holzland Kern out in Kirchseeon on the Wasserburger Landstrasse, east of Munich.

We went out there to look for parkett and laminate, but I was also very happy with their selection of different types of wood, both treated and raw wood. I reckon we'll be back there for our next woodwork project : )
They also have entire wood systems for building childrens playgrounds in gardens.

It is a bit of a drive depending on where you are based, but if you want something specific it can be worthwhile. They are also happy to give plenty of advice for as long as you want, and do deliveries.

If you know exactly what you want, you could always phone up in advance and check if they stock it.

Yes, I've checked the yellow pages and driven out to several of the places that are "holzhandel". Haven't seen any hardwoods, though--just soft wood stock and supplies for construction. The next step is talking to a local furniture maker--but the the few around here keep irregular hours and aren't open very much.

Pradler in Garching might have what you're looking for.
