Was just playing around on youtube getting all nostalgic listening to and watching vids of my favourite tracks of the past. Drew up the following list of mostly songs I danced my socks off to in my early 20s. Thought I'd post them here as links so that the curious can listen to them and encourage others to post their top tens too! Here's my list:
maybe is I post the word "GAY" the thread will suddenly be mobbed with contributions. That usually does the trick

I don't have an official top ten of all time, but I do have a top 15 U2 songs of all time, which would probably be most of my top ten of all time:
No I am just a dork. Edited it above. I tried to make a top ten for U2 and found it impossible, hence the top 15.

top 15s are okay leeza
I first saw U2 in Edinburgh on the October tour and loved them to bits through Boy, October and War and then went rapidly off them as their raw Irishness turned into midatlantic rock instead.
Gloria has to be one of my favourite tracks of all time from U2

Oi! What's wrong with my list? Anyone clubbing in London in 1989/90 will know most of these. Erasure is the only particularly 'gay' band in there but when I was a student they had general appeal.

BattalionBoy listed songs to be played if anybody wanted others to leave a room. Certainly not an appropiate top ten list for this thread.
No offence, but if it is in your top 10 songs then at least take the trouble to get the artist correct.
I read this thread and you all have terrible music taste (except for Sin who gets kudos for Ghost Town).
Thanks, Dave

FFS, there was no 'poofter' heading. The second post was a JOKE at my own expense because unlike the heated "gay" threads this one plummetted out of the top 20 without any responses. God sometimes you have to spell it out . . .

1. Beautiful Day – U2 2. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life – Monty Python 3. Stuck in a Moment.. – U2 4. Your Life is Now – John Mellencamp
5-11 (in no particular order and with an extra one added as I couldn't decide which one to leave out )
Your’re in my Heart – Rod Stewart A Man and a Woman - U2 Handbags and Gladrags – Rod Stewart Peaceful World – John Mellencamp Escape – Rupert Holmes Something – JB’s version I am the Walrus - Bono version
For me it is more about the lyrics and what they mean to me or a specific time when I heard the songs.

a) Morrissey is celibate and not gay. That song is by The Smiths and not Morrissey solo.
Apart from that though I thought everything else about the post was brilliant. Well done. Sorry, it's a Sunday and I'm grumpy because it's raining and I've run out of cigarettes and crack.

So let's get the rules straight. It's a top ten list so you need ten songs. Posting six songs would come under the top 6 thread. And there's no gay theme running through this thread.

I agree entirely. For all my favourite songs there is more than just the song. There is a story behind every one.
I do have a theory that almost all everybodies favourite music comes from their formative years (16-24?) or a period of extreme emotional stress.

Maybe it should just be a camp thread? In this case then the need to prove the sexuality of the artists would not be an issue. So....
1. "Long live love" by Sandie Shaw 2. "All the things she said" by Tatu 3. "No one can hold a candle to you" by Raymonde 4. "Dress you up" by Madonna 5. "Constant Craving" by KD Lang 6. "Drive that fast" by The Kitchens of Distinction 7. "Sexuality" by Billy Bragg (I'm suggesting nothing other than it's a great pop song so don't even go there). 8. "The one I love" by REM 9. "Tiger" by Abba
... and seeing as how there seems to be some doubt:
10. "There is a light that never goes out" by The Smiths
I wish I could have thought of something more recent to fit in there, but it's been a while since I heard a good, catchy and original pop song. Anyone know if Rhiana is perceived to be "camp". In which case, feel free to remove any of these are replace with "Umbrella".

These are in no particular order and I couldn't cut it down to 10 and I don't even think this is the true top 10. There are far far too many songs to mention

Someday - Mariah Carey
Don't forget about us - Mariah Carey
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Its a pity - Tanya Stephens
It feels so good - Sonique
Lets stay together - Tina Turner version
Unbreak my heart - Toni Braxton

Agree, agree esp about the extreme emotional stress theory. Those are the times when songs seem to speak to me and I identify with them more. Seems to happen once or twice a year, so I have built up my song catalogue from there .

Not my most favorite songs, but the stuff I "danced" to, when I was in my early twenties. In fact I cant even listen to some of it anymore.
Oh, and I chose the least-gayest I could remember (although I have my doubts about The The).
With the standard 'this is a completely artificial exercise, and the answer depends on which way the wind is blowing' disclaimer, here are ten song that I love. I think the fact that they're all a good few years old means I've got old...
Lazy Line Painter Jane - Belle & Sebastian Pull The Wires From The Wall - The Delgados Anthrax - Gang Of Four A Country Practice - Half Man Half Biscuit Atmosphere - Joy Division Mogwai Fear Satan - Mogwai The Dirge - New Bad Things Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones Map Ref. 41°N 93°W - Wire You Can Have It All - Yo La Tengo

House Of Love - Feel / My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise [/i]
You are right. "Feel", with its trippy guitar riffs and glowing harmonies was amongst there best, but I think that "Destroy the heart" is a contender. This is probably more on a lyrical level. As for "that" My Bloody Valentine song, apparently gig-goers at their recent shows were treated to a 20 minute-strong screaming rendition, which was probably worth the 16 year sabbatical in itself. From that EP though, I pick "Thorn" as the best track, although it has to be said that I am a sucker for a route #1 Indiepop song.
