Was just playing around on youtube getting all nostalgic listening to and watching vids of my favourite tracks of the past. No I am just a dork. Edited it above. I tried to make a top ten for U2 and found it impossible, hence the top 15.
Bell the cat
top 15s are okay leeza

I first saw U2 in Edinburgh on the October tour and loved them to bits through Boy, October and War and then went rapidly off them as their raw Irishness turned into midatlantic rock instead.

Gloria has to be one of my favourite tracks of all time from U2

The B-side to the single "With a shout (jerusalem)" was pretty superb too

Bell the cat
Oi! What's wrong with my list? Anyone clubbing in London in 1989/90 will know most of these. Erasure is the only particularly 'gay' band in there but when I was a student they had general appeal.
Pas
Given up as it would change every hour. I've been promising myself I'd do a few lists recently so here's a list of some of my favourite slower ones.

1. Bad English - Price of Love
2. Heart - Who will you run to
3. Great White - She only
4. John Waite - Great White
5. Stevie Nicks - Has anybody ever written anything for you
6. Enuff z nuff - For now
7. Marillion - No one can
8. Mother Love Bone - Crown of thorns
9. Berlin - Hideaway
10. Cyndi Lauper - Unhook the stars
11. Wendy and Lisa - Waterfall
12. Carly Simon - Do the walls come down
howsthat
Paris Hilton a favourite singer, Batallion Boy? Does she sing? Heaven help us. Get him back on medicaments please, someone.

Since I'm here, might as well comment too: 1. Dancing Queen 2. Knowing me, Knowing you 3) Dreamers - Jack Savoretti 4) Heartbreaker - Dionne Warwick 5) Tomorrow's Children - Maggie Reilly.
FuzzyTony
BattalionBoy listed songs to be played if anybody wanted others to leave a room. Certainly not an appropiate top ten list for this thread.

Anyway, here's my top ten:
  1. Pink Floyd - Time
  2. Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
  3. Pink Floyd - Echoes
  4. Pink Floyd - Dogs
  5. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
  6. Pink Floyd - One of These Days
  7. Pink Floyd - Fearless
  8. Pink Floyd - Sheep
  9. Pink Floyd - On The Turning Away
  10. Pink Floyd - Childhood's End

Pink Floyd - "Childhood's Dream"

Morrissey - This Charming Man

No offence, but if it is in your top 10 songs then at least take the trouble to get the artist correct.

I read this thread and you all have terrible music taste (except for Sin who gets kudos for Ghost Town).

Thanks,
Dave
Pas
If we all had the same tastes hardly anybody would ever get a shag.
the_cat
I wouldn't shag anyone that had ever owned an Erasure or U2 CD.
Bell the cat
well I wouldn't shag you either matey. Why don't you post something constructive instead.

I only choose him because he fitted under the poofter heading. Not really a fan to be honest.

Could you buck the thread up by letting us have an insight into your taste then - or is it too anticlaphystic?
Bell the cat
FFS, there was no 'poofter' heading. The second post was a JOKE at my own expense because unlike the heated "gay" threads this one plummetted out of the top 20 without any responses. God sometimes you have to spell it out . . .

It is supposed to be a thread about YOUR FAVOURITE TOP TEN SONGS OF ALL TIME

and breathe ...
the_cat
Ok. "The Timewarp" by Damian. I wouldn't want to shag you either so "na na na".
the vicar
That was a top one another 9 are missing.

"plummetted" [sic] without responses in only 31 minutes? That's gay posting in the first place.
garibaldi
So far there's been nothing gay about his thread - it's been deadly serious lads!
eurobabs
1. Beautiful Day – U2
2. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life – Monty Python
3. Stuck in a Moment.. – U2
4. Your Life is Now – John Mellencamp

5-11 (in no particular order and with an extra one added as I couldn't decide which one to leave out smile.gif )

Your’re in my Heart – Rod Stewart
A Man and a Woman - U2
Handbags and Gladrags – Rod Stewart
Peaceful World – John Mellencamp
Escape – Rupert Holmes
Something – JB’s version wink.gif
I am the Walrus - Bono version

For me it is more about the lyrics and what they mean to me or a specific time when I heard the songs.
Steve Shadforth
Most of you won't have heard of these, here goes

David Sylvian - Taking the Veil
Grant Lee Buffalo- Jupiter and Teardrop
American Music Club- Jonny Mathis' Feet
Thomas Dolby- I love You Goodbye
Tom Waits - most of Asylum Years
Smashing Pumpkins - most of Machina/The Machines of God

ps, I made No1 on the Peter Gabriel Realworld Remixed Website Top Twenty Chart, so I'm a happy bunny!

a) Morrissey is celibate and not gay.
cool.gif That song is by The Smiths and not Morrissey solo.

Apart from that though I thought everything else about the post was brilliant. Well done. Sorry, it's a Sunday and I'm grumpy because it's raining and I've run out of cigarettes and crack.
the vicar
So let's get the rules straight. It's a top ten list so you need ten songs. Posting six songs would come under the top 6 thread. And there's no gay theme running through this thread.

So's the Pope and Cliff Richard.

I agree entirely. For all my favourite songs there is more than just the song. There is a story behind every one.

I do have a theory that almost all everybodies favourite music comes from their formative years (16-24?) or a period of extreme emotional stress.
BadBob

This is a gay thread.

Ah! That explains why you're here then.
the_cat
Maybe it should just be a camp thread? In this case then the need to prove the sexuality of the artists would not be an issue. So....

1. "Long live love" by Sandie Shaw
2. "All the things she said" by Tatu
3. "No one can hold a candle to you" by Raymonde
4. "Dress you up" by Madonna
5. "Constant Craving" by KD Lang
6. "Drive that fast" by The Kitchens of Distinction
7. "Sexuality" by Billy Bragg (I'm suggesting nothing other than it's a great pop song so don't even go there).
8. "The one I love" by REM
9. "Tiger" by Abba

... and seeing as how there seems to be some doubt:

10. "There is a light that never goes out" by The Smiths

I wish I could have thought of something more recent to fit in there, but it's been a while since I heard a good, catchy and original pop song. Anyone know if Rhiana is perceived to be "camp". In which case, feel free to remove any of these are replace with "Umbrella".

Buffy
These are in no particular order and I couldn't cut it down to 10 and I don't even think this is the true top 10. There are far far too many songs to mention

  • Think Twice - Celine Dion
  • Someday - Mariah Carey
  • Don't forget about us - Mariah Carey
  • Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
  • Its a pity - Tanya Stephens
  • It feels so good - Sonique
  • Lets stay together - Tina Turner version
  • Unbreak my heart - Toni Braxton
  • Twisted - Keith Sweat
  • Get upon it - Kut Klose
  • Guiltiness - Bob Marley
  • I Still Believe - Mariah Carey version

Agree, agree esp about the extreme emotional stress theory. Those are the times when songs seem to speak to me and I identify with them more. Seems to happen once or twice a year, so I have built up my song catalogue from there unsure.gif.
Freising
Not my most favorite songs, but the stuff I "danced" to, when I was in my early twenties. In fact I cant even listen to some of it anymore.

Oh, and I chose the least-gayest I could remember (although I have my doubts about The The). wink.gif

Rage against the Machine - Killing in the name
Sisters of Mercy - Temple of Love '92

Mogwai Fear Satan - Mogwai

Just in case a bit of additional campness is required

Smile Like You Mean It - The Killers

House Of Love - Feel / My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise [/i]

You are right. "Feel", with its trippy guitar riffs and glowing harmonies was amongst there best, but I think that "Destroy the heart" is a contender. This is probably more on a lyrical level. As for "that" My Bloody Valentine song, apparently gig-goers at their recent shows were treated to a 20 minute-strong screaming rendition, which was probably worth the 16 year sabbatical in itself. From that EP though, I pick "Thorn" as the best track, although it has to be said that I am a sucker for a route #1 Indiepop song.
