Hello,

last week in Slate there was an article appealing for book donations to the library of a new university in Sulaimani (Iraq). I'm willing to part with a bunch of books that would be useful to them, so my tentative plan is to pack them into a couple of M-Bags and send them off. Given that this is going to cost significant cash, I'd like to co-opt the German state, in the form of a tax write-off, if feasible.

So here's my question: Does anyone know of a recognised German charity (Stiftung) who will accept my book and cash donation, direct me to send the books to the aforementioned university, using most of the donated cash for postage, and issue me a valid donation receipt (Spendenquittung), which I can file with my German taxes?

I know that American charities and universities have such organisations set up in Europe for the similar purpose of accommodating European donors to American recipients by giving them a tax break in their home jurisdiction.

Thanks for any pointers,
Jim Walker
