Using a digibox with a SCART/RCA adaptor

Advice on getting it to work

I am currently living in a buidling (10th floors) and are used to have CNN and some other channels, but it was gone few weeks ago (due to change of signals). I was advice from KMS to use one from their shops : TechniSat DIGIT MF4-K with Conax smartcard slot.(actually, Jay has given me the recommendation. thanks Jay!)
So, yesterday I went there and the guy checks my address and everything was ok..went home, but nothing works (kein Signal), went back to the shop, and the guy tested the digibox, and it works. At the end, he said the reason is because my TV (which was bought in Asia) does not have scart connection (I was using a scart/RCA adaptor). There are a few others in my building who has the same digibox and it is working for them.

My question is, is this true that digibox does not work without scart connection to a TV?

many thanks,

You actually have an on-screen message saying "kein Signal"? If that's the case then the SCART-RCA cable is fine (or you would not see the message!) and you really do not have any signal going into the box. Might be a bad cable, a bad connector, a bad outlet, or no signal reaching the outlet.

thanks YL6. That was what I suspected. Wonder if there are anybody offers/service (of course not free) to check for us? smile.gif

Apart from checking your own connecting cables, I'd say it was a problem for the cable company or Hausverwaltung as it sounds like a house cabling problem. The cable company can only remotely confirm that the signal is available in your building, they can confirm how it is routed into your apartment.

I would double-check all is connected correctly.

English manual available here:

And did you check all channels as KMS pre-tune the box for the 862Mhz network so some channels will have no signal (if you are on the 511 network).

yeap.. I think I have connected correctly. ..1 aerial in (from the socket on the wall), 1 aerial out to TV. Scart connection to TV. Bascially, I have no channels at all. I asked the guy in the shop, he said I do not need to search any channel at all, all of them will be preset. (btw, I think their customer service is actually very good, and the guy English are quite good as well). I will contact my landlady tomorrow to see if they can arrange somebody to come in and check it for us.

Thanks everyone.

You don't need an "aerial out" to the TV (but it won't hurt either). Make sure you are really viewing the external (RCA) input. You can check this by disconnecting the settop box from the power supply. Does the "no signal" message disappear? If not then you've not got it right as this is a TV-generated message.
Oh, and you seemed to be now called "ronch"?

Can you not check your neighbours set-up. Sounds a simple fault.

Thanks.. I have tried it and the "no signal" message disappear. wink.gif
Anyway, I was using my wife's account at home wink.gif (not meant to be tricky)

But its a shame that I cannot ask my neighbour... he is a very strange man who do not say any greetings (actually anything) .. and he pretend not to see us even walking face to face.. (maybe because we do not look anywhere near German, we are from Asia), but he is not German .. (not idea where he is from..maybe eastern Europe)

cheers,

To throw a spanner in the works...

Many TV show the message " no signal" when there is no signal...

The message you see may be from the Digital receiver or it could be the one generated by the TV itself! huh.gif
