I am trying to connect my VOIP adapter (Linksys SPA 2100). I did not have any problems with our previous provider but now I cannot get the adapter to work.
I believe it is because of the username and password that Alice uses but before I can troubleshoot I need to know if the internet connection is PPPoE or DHCP? Contacting
Alice is extremely troublesome.
Also, is anyone using a VOIP adapter on a modem that is secured with a password? I can connect via Xlite on my computer so it is definitely a problem with the adapter communicating
with the modem.
Thanks

You're comparing apples with pears. I don't know what Alice use (assume PPPoE), but it wouldn't be DHCP as that is for dynamically assigning an IP address to your end device once you get connected.

Alice is PPPoE. You should be able to set it up through your router's configuration tool.
Username and password you should have received from Alice.

My Alice connection uses PPoE and they assign addresses once connected via DHCP...

I think the problem is that you have a modem and you need a router. Post the information about the device you are using to connect to the Internets.

The device is a Siemens ADSL C2-010-1. In the states, I have no problem connecting directly to my cable modem or to my wireless router. I am guessing that I have to configure the Voip adapter with the username/password required by the modem which I have never needed to do before.

That device is a modem, in the states you had a cable modem that probably did not need user/pass. Your modem needs to be informed with the username and pass somehow.
If you manage to configure the voip adapter to connect somehow then no other device can use the Internet at the same time. i.e. your PC.

Not sure if I can get the VOIP adapter to pass the username/password to the modem. But, the adapter does have a PC output which I usually use to connect my PC or Mac to the internet which should avoid the problem of only one device connecting to the modem.
I am guessing that a router might be the best solution to use. Any suggestions for a brand or model, especially from someone who is connecting to Alice?

I think it might not work. When you have more than one client connected to the net you need somebody doing NAT (sharing the connection) and that's what routers do.
Maybe you can use a Fritzbox. I do not have Alice but I do not see any reason why it would not work.

If the box has both a WAN and a PC/LAN connection then chances are that it does some form of routing and/or NAT internally.

I don't know anything about the Fritzbox. I have only seen it in some of the stores and will need to do more research.
I guess I will try getting a router to see if that works.

Fritzbox = router
