On Tuesday up to 400 investigators raided customs offices in Greater Munich, searching for evidence of corruption. Nine officials were arrested.
The District Attorney revealed that up to 24 officials were being investigated in total, on charges of bribery, tax evasion, fraud, falsification of documents and abuse of power. Bavarian customs officers were allegedly bribed to make false declarations on export documentation. Prosecutors suspect that goods were simply rubber-stamped for export without proper checks.
