Hello Toytown folk

Can anyone here give me some tips on some decent party venues in Berlin that are available to hire? It's for a wedding reception.

Ideally the space would suit around 100-150 partygoers, there should be a bar for serving drinks, decks for a DJ and a mic, seating, and a dance floor. Basic lighting would also be a bonus.

We've been looking at a couple of ballhaus venues (Ballhaus Ost, Clärchens Ballhaus and Ballhaus Mitte) but they are either fully booked, too expensive or unsuitable for our needs.

We need to book the venue for a Saturday night which obviously makes things a bit more tricky!

Any help on this would be brilliant, the wedding is in September and things are getting a bit desperate.

Thanks in advance.

There's a million places in Berlin and even the places you wouldn't expect are usually willing to rent - just ask. They also usually can organize the DJ/lights stuff. The Spiegelsaal in Claerchens is totally over-rated and over-used for receptions (it's bigger than you think and try peeing in those crappy toilets in wedding attire).

How about: gruener salon/roter salon in Volksbuehne (cheaper than you'd think)?

Maxwell restaurant does a mean reception or even a meal: http://www.mxwl.de/

Modelhut too but might be too small (www.modelhut.de or something -- it's near hackesche).

The Umspannwerk in Kopenhagenerstrasse has 1,000 different rooms -- call Vatenfall, I believe (or google a little. Even if you don't rent there it's worth the potential renting tour).

But it's best to find a place you like and then find a related number and make a few calls -- it's always worked for me for various events.

Thanks very much for the advice Käptn. Yes Claerchens quoted us some silly prices, it's an atmospheric space but I think when people hear the word 'wedding' the venue hire suddenly triples in value!

I should've mentioned we're on a pretty tight budget eg below 5000 Euros.

Gruener salon/roter salon are great tips, just the sort of thing we are looking for although maybe Saturday hire might be an issue, I'll definately check them out.

We're not so interested in resturants or hotels, literally just a party venue for music and booze!

Thanks again for your help any more tips would be great.

Cheers
