Best countryside places out of Berlin

Suggested destinations to enjoy some serenity

I am just wondering, since it is summer, I would love to visit some countryside. Preferably around 1 to 3 hours out of Berlin. I just need to get out from the hectic metropolis area. Any suggestion? I do not want to go to another town or city. I want to witness what Germany can offer in term of serenity and calmness side of the country.

I dont mind traveling alone as long as those places are accessible via train and some decent backpacker´s place? I dont mind camping too! Probably the Germans know better.

THanks!

It's a little bit on the far side (about 3 hours), but do check out Rügen. It's beautiful.

How about National Park Saxon Switzerland? It's less than an hour further south(east) of Dresden.
You could probably take Berlin - Prague train and just get off the train at the border station Schöna. It shouldn't take any more than three hours to get there from Berlin.
In Saxon Switzerland you could camp or stay in a hostel such as Ferdinands Homestay (unfortunately the site is only in German), go hiking, climbing, canoeing and so on.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read TobyG.'s post properly before I posted.

I'm planning a little trip with my son to Rövershagen just outside of Rostock where there is a strawberry farm & you can pick your own strawberries. Also a butterfly garden, ceramic wekstadt and other things for children & adults.
