Hi,

I am calling here for fellow Bach fans out there on TT.

I am new in town and I have a quick question about an incoming concert, the Mass in B minor. The concert is given by the Müchener Bach-Choir and the Bach Collegium Müchen. My question is: are those two households names in München or are they like the B-team? I ask because I got burned in Ottawa once, where I went to see the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. In the end those guys were amateurs and real deal is the Ottawa National Art Center Orchestra.

Thanks a bunch,
Barbu

These groups are fab, especially the Munich Bach choir.

Have you ever seen the Mass in B Minor? Wonderful. I have a recording from a ways back of the Bach choir doing the Mass, and all the tempi are a little slow, but I think most conductors take them faster these days.

The well known bach Choirs are great, but I have been dissapointed in D with the quality of local music. It is generaly at a far higher standard in England and that did suprise me, before I understood that the reputation germany has for many things is not bourne out in reality. Keep an open mind.

They are really fantastic. I actually sang as a soloist with them at their Handel concert. Both the choir and the orchestra were wonderful. smile.gif Enjoy!

Yes, Barbu, definitely go to see the MIBM. It's a huge work, very difficult, a big effort, and at least in the US, it's not performed all that often. I sang it this past spring, and we had almost full houses for three concerts in Minneapolis/St. Paul, which is pretty amazing for an amateur choir. Then again, we had Bach's bible on display for ticketholders, and there are a lot of Lutherans around here. laugh.gif
