Hello,
I am about to complete my studies here in Germany and have got a placement in a mid-size firm. The problem is, the company hasnt got any non-EU employees. I am of Indian origin, and need to apply for Niederlassungserlaubnis b4 i start with the job.
My question is, what are the required documents/papers to apply for Niederlassungserlaubnis. Will be getting the work contract and degree certificate shortly.
Initially for how many years will the Niederlassungserlaubnis be issued for?
thanks in advance.
Cheers

You cannot straight away apply for a Niederlassungserlaubnis as an Indian, American, Australian or a Martian! You would have to first apply for an Aufenthaltstitel/erlaubnis. Forms will be available from your Ausländerbehörde. Further info can be easily discovered

Niederlassungserlaubnis is permanent residence permit which you get after living here and contributing to the social system for 5 years. A immediete Niederlassungserlaubnis is issued only in exceptional cases (top research scholar, annual salary of 84K EUR or more etc.). If you don't qualify for these, you should be applying for "Aufenthalterlaubnis" or normal residence permit which will be tied to your job. The duration of Aufenthalherlaubnis will depend on your contract and the person who handles your file at the foreign office. Can be from 1 to 3 years.

oops sorry... i meant Aufenthaltserlaubnis actually... by mistake typed in as Niederlassungserlaubnis as i was reading about that too simultaneously.
what are the documents required to apply for Aufenthaltstitel? I have been having one for the past 3 yrs, but as a student whereas i am allowed to work only 90 full or 180 half days. But this came along with my student visa. Donno how it works with a regular job?

First you must get your Work Permit processed. Your employer can do this arrangement with the Arbeitsamt and it is quicker in that case.

Why did I just now want to start a thread titled "Applying for Niederlassungserlaubnis as a Cowboy"?
I'm not right in the head, so I'm not.
