I heard
Murphy's has lowered their beer and cider prices?
Good on them!
Keydeck
Nov 26 2004, 10:14 am
To the same price as The Arc

Sweeeeet!
Shame they decide to do it now that I am leaving Munich and Jimbo has already left...I shudder to think of the carnage that would have resulted if the prices had been lowered earlier on in the year!

Could it really have been more than it was?

@ Keydeck -

Well probably not really, but when I think of the outrageous bar bills we used to pick up at the end of an all day sesh...we used to have to have another few just to get over the shock! (all self inflicted though and nothing to do with the beer fairies taking advantage of our alcoholic tendancies, oh no.

What was the old helles price?
A LOT of specialist and posh-ish bars are having to reduce their prices in Munich from the outrageous levels they were because the pub trade is having a hard time right now.
SO GM isn't doing anyone a massive favour, just moving with the market cos people aren't prepared right now to be ripped off by paying more than € 3 for a pint.
Can't stand the place, nice breakfasts mind.

GM's is still IMO the best ex-pat bar in Munich. I never felt ripped off paying 3,20€ for a pint there. Great atmosphere, best place to go watch the football. Not forgetting that the food and service is always good(Though I think they should steal the 'Pound of Meat Pizza' recipe from kilians and add that to the menu).
I guess the only bar that I can think of that should be worrying now is Bondi where you're paying 4€ for a pint of 'Fosters/Kronenburg' piss water.

i heard Bondi was closing down for good soon. Is this just a vicious rumour or is there aby thruth to it?

Apparently the owner Greg leaves Germany but the Lease of Bondi will keep running...

And unfortunately so does the deal with Fosters & Kronenberg!

Did they lower the food prices as well? Cause I think that is too expensive as well. I mean 4,50 for a ham/cheese sandwich without anything is just far from good. The helles last time i was there cost 3,40€. So
Kilians has the highest beer price then 3,30€. Hope they will lower their prices too.

They just need to sort the miserable bastard staff they have then it would be a better place to go to.

Not only have Murphy's lowered their beer price to the same as the Arc but they also appear to have moved some tables from near the bar and put up a shiny new dart board.
It all seems a bit too convenient to be a coincidence - but if the beer prices keep going down in Munich then I'm all for some healthy competition.

Maybe I've been out of town too long but I thought most of the staff in Kilian's were very good. This was back in Cindy's day. Ok, it's not that long ago

My gf and I have been to
Kilians only about 6-8 times. The food has always been good, but the staff (mid-afternoon) pretend they're deaf and blind...oh, and they've been rude.
...but I'm sure I'll go back, for some reason we like the place, haha...
...but I haven't been to Murphy's...I'll have to try it, never been to the Arc either, I'll have to find them, then go there sometime soon.

Pound of Meat pizza, excellent - Get a fried egg on top as well.
Thats if you dont get the sour faced cow that served me and told me they were too busy and food would take over an hour (It took 10 minutes) and give up any tables you've booked cos your other people hadnt arrived and then complain cos she was being too slow at serving drinks and people were getting them from the bar instead.
Oh, I needed cider to do some cooking with, asked at
Kilians for 2 bottles to take out...NO...Why?...We dont do that...Why?...We just dont!
GM's...Can I have 2 unopened bottles of Strongbow to take out...Sure, no problem.

yeah, GM's has brill service...I've known Alan for years, he's a great character.
GM's always had great staff..way way back 13 years ago when I first drunk (and got drunk) there.
Woohoo will have to get back out there soon and sample this cheaper beer, even though it is the same beer.

Good Effort. I like the place & the staff are great. I have to admit, I've been going less & less because I was getting pissed off with paying over the odds for Beer. Just wish the price of Guiness would come down. Only drink Guiness there when I've taken a massive loan out, otherwise I head to Outland for a good Guiness session

i have to admit it does irritate me a lot that i've been going to GM for six years paying their inflated beer prices when they obviously could have dropped them years ago and have only done so now because of the competition. reason enough not to go there any more in my book.
and fyi
The Arc also has cheaper Guinness.
