Just putting an event here so you can put it in your diary ('diarize it' for you Americans).
This Wednesday will be Thai food. Nearly all the restaurants we've been to so far have served Thai food - it seems to be cooked/served in any place calling itself Asian. The best I've had so far has been in Sushu & Wok where we went last week ostensibly for sushi/sashimi. So I need to pick somewhere else.
If anyone knows of a place serving great Thai food (if there's loads of choice and there's an expert out there, I'd prefer Northern Thai food if possible!) let me know.
Anyway - this Wednesday, 7:30pm, Stuttgart, exact location to be decided nearer the time. After the Thai we can see
the bears.

Oh, forgot to say ...
Post here if you fancy coming. Send me a private message as well if you needed to swap mobile numbers although it's not necessary; these events have always gone off without a hitch so far!

One of my favorite Thai places in Stuttgart is called Shaba
http://www.shaba-thai-restaurant.de/ ... Its nice and not too terribly expensive...they also have a back room with low tables where you sit on the floor with those Thai floor seat things, which you could probably reserve (but of course they have lots of normal tables as well). I would love to join the group for a meal... Also, just for future meet ups, I also know of a good Korean one called Seoul City.

Hello everyone,
I've also heard from few of my students that Shaba is a really good Thai place. I've never been there though so I have no idea what the food is like. Count me in regardless of where you decide to go in the end.
Later,

Well, the location is good, and it comes recommended (by a small fish), so that'll do me! ;)
I've never sat on the floor in a restaurant in Thailand, I didn't know that it was Thai style to do that (I know Japanese do) - maybe they just take one look at me and think I can eat more sitting on a chair ;)
Right, well, I'll cut and paste the address a bit later as I'm in the middle of smoking my neighbours out with a balcony BBQ, but it's sorted. Shaba, 7:30pm, Wednesday.
And welcome! See you on Wednesday. Anyone else??

Excellent! Right, here are the details (the restaurant has a really crappy website - not much works in Firefox - but the worse the website, the better the food ...) :
ShabaNeckarstr. 246
70190 Stuttgart
I've linked a google map
here and the nearest UBahn stops are Metzstrasse and Mineralbaeder. The best way to get there is to cycle from the town centre through the Schossgarten of course ;)
7:30pm this Wednesday. See you all there! Post here if interested; if the numbers look high then I'll ring on Wednesday to reserve a table.

Stuttgart is quite easy to navigate. Print out (or memorise!) the google map. Your empty stomach will guide you ;)

Hi guys,
New to the group. Too late to join in this evening? Thought I might swing by to say hello.
adrianlondon
Jul 9 2008, 1:27 pm
Never too late. Does anyone here speak good German (I speak none!) and want to make the reservation for me? Don't all ring up, obviously - someone private me and say they're willing to do it.
There's going to be up to 12 people, so I think a reservation is necessary.
If I don't hear from anyone, I'll text Mayfly and hopefully get through to ask her. Being German, her German is quite good ;)

Thanks Beetle! The reservation is being made now. If you arrive after 7:30 just look for the big group of people chatting in English. Or ask the staff for the booking under my name (Adrian, if you couldn't guess).

Thanks everyone for turning up! Great company - and we had a small section of the restaurant seemingly just for us, so it was good to chill and chat for a bit after we'd eaten. Nine of us came. Food was pretty good. My soup starter was excellent and the main course wasn't bad. Good service, comfy restaurant.
Next Wednesday's Asian dinner will be Korean.

drat, missed it! I think I'll be missing out here through the rest of this month, as I'm picking up grunt-overtime hours at work. But as for next month, definitely count me back in!

Hi!
Is Asian allow to join this gathering? I am Malaysian and will be moving there in September with my bf.
rowhan
Jul 22 2008, 3:39 pm
Sorry, no Asians or dogs are normally allowed at these gatherings.
However if you ask nicely and pay a 500 Euro nonrefundable Waszumteufelgebühr
you will be allowed to come as cleaning staff
as long as both you and your bf wear sexy costumes.

Jul 22 2008, 3:59 pm
You'll also need to go back in time for this gathering ;)
Basically, since I arrived in Stuttgart 2.5 months ago I've been organising weekly dinners out to an Asian restaurant. I've just about run out of Asian countries to try (that Stuttgart has to offer, anyway) so will be changing my theme next month. There might not even be a theme - just dinners out. I'm also tempted to run a "Michelin Star" theme but some of us might run out of money rather quickly.
Of course you're welcome. Rowhan's going for the "Jack Dee" style of humour which you might not get. You can't see his sexual-pervert-type smirk online though.
Keep an eye on the "events" section and just turn up, alone or with your bf, to anything you like. We might also start cooking and hosting dinners soon. There's a Singaporean on here who's offered to cook, and I spent two days in a cooking school in Chiangmai so will probably attempt some Thai food at some point. If you can cook, then fantastic ;)

Adrian, agreed but not everyone gets the humour as we have discussed in the past! Especially when online

My mistake, I was reading the wrong page of the instruction manual.
It turns out that Asians are welcome and no payment is required
(although it is still necessary to use the secret password "Was zum Teufel" to gain entry)

All is forgiven then, I hope by others also.
And make sure you read the right instruction manual as I think you have the wrong password!

We need a video topic at least Rowhan's humor may have been perceived differently!
9 out of 10 posters always take the wrong view of a post! I blame it on the English language, I mean just how many to, too, two's do you need??
I think Rowhan has to spend the weekend wearing a Toytown sign and walking around apologizing for his remarks to every Asian he meets

I think it must be my rambling day!!!

Awww... No need to be so cruel to him...It was a great big joke and misunderstanding. After all I have a bunch of gay friends that always making jokes in that way in Malaysia too. I have know them for more than 8 years of course! So I do know how it is feel like. When you know them longer you don't feel anything with the jokes anymore. Because you know they mean no harm. But when first time I meet them few years ago. It is really like shit. I left immediately in a dinner gathering because they let me wait for hours and finally decided to wait another hour before going out for dinner. Just because they want to play few round Mahjong. It happen many times...

Anyway, hope to see you all in September!

Don't worry nsw1881 we made him feel really bad on your behalf last night! He has been flogged within an inch of his life and crawled on his knees to apologize for his trangressions. Thats before we even told him about the post on Toytown so his confessions took a while!
Have a good time and hopefully see you in September.

That's such a great coincidence.
We were just going to announce that the Stuttgart Mahjong Club will meet from this September.
Our slogan is "Are you feeling lucky, pung?" and our motto is "Break wind before you break the wall".

That's sound really Chinese Kungfu! Hope you guys could really break the wind! Hahahahha!!! I am rather a lousy Mahjong player. Just learned it last february with my bf. Now I don't think I can't remember much how to play it!

Next weekend we are coming with a couple of friends to look for apartment to rent in Stuttgart! Hopefully can find a great apt there! Adios! ---- neo
