Registering a self-employed business in Berlin

How to do this as a newly arrived foreigner

I apologise as I am sure there are many threads addressing similar questions, I'm kind of after "The Dummys guide to..." version for how to establish ones self here.

My girlfriend and I (I being British, My girlfriend being Canadian though Polish by birth) will be in Berlin for around six months. I wish to register our clothing line here as we are here to manufacture and sell our garments. We have a subleased flat and adequate funds. I am traveling on my EU passport and my girlfriend here on Canadian (Polish one being lost and in the process of being obtained).

What do I require to open a bank account, register the business and recieve health coverage. Can private health coverage be taken out for my Canadian girlfriend from within Germany?

Many thanks and sincere appreciation for assistance with any of the above.

You are going to have to be patient because things take time over here. Opening a bank account and getting private health insurance should not be too much of a problem if you have money. The Embassy website used to have tips but I do not know if it still does

I hope that you or someone you know speaks German because of the bureaucracy. In principle you have to apply for a permit either in person or per post (see link for Charlottenburg)

which costs €26 and then register at the tax office (next to U bahn Bismarckstr in Charlottenburg). Hope things turn out well!
