Desperate to find somewhere to go and listen to some live jazz music. Is there any places in Berlin?
Lavender Rain
I'll be in Berlin next Friday to see the Diane Krall concert at the Zitadelle in Berlin Spandau.

I have nothing planned for Saturday other than to find some GOOD live jazz music in Berlin for Saturday evening. Here's a few sites I will check out what's happening on Saturday evening.

I was hanging out at the A-Trane Jazz Club on Bleibtreustrasse 1 last night in Berlin. http://www.a-trane.de/

I highly recommend this jazz club! If you can get there tonight Mack Goldsbury and Ernest Bier Quartett are playing some really great jazz. I saw them play last night and it was the best live jazz I've heard here in Germany in the eleven years I've been here. I had to go backstage to thank them as I was blow away with their talent.

The club is cozy and intimate like a jazz club should feel. The entrance fee is 12 Euros.

They also have a solid lineup of jazz musician playing there in future. I will be back there on September 7 to see Mark Murphy as he's an great jazz singer.

I was there on that night aswell, by accident. We just walked in expecting more of a open club feel to it, instead people respectively sit quietly and listen. Fair play I was impressed. My first Jazz since New Orleans trip earlier in the year. Whereas New Orleans Jazz bars were lively places where people could get up, chat at normal volume and dance, A-Trane was still. I liked both in their own way.

But is there somewhere in Berlin for the lively Jazz bars?

how late are these places open to (and also, until what time do the bands play?)

I did hear quite a bit of English being spoken when I was there. Were you with the group that came in and was sitting in the back along the wall to the left?

I don't know exactly what you mean by "lively jazz bars". Can you elaborate on that?

Hey, check out Trompete it's the newest jazz club in Berlin and it's suppose to be the in place to go. Let me know what you think I haven't been there yet but it was highly recommended to me.

More lively jazz bars: Normally Oxident, Junction Bar, Yorckschlößchen. And in general the jazz sessions (which are mainly free) Definitely not: Schlot and, yes A-trane.
Trompete has/had sometimes (only once or twice a month) jazz for many years, is it now more regularly or why it is the "newest" jazz club?

zosch also has fun jazz on wednesday nights, from about 10pm. it's in the downstairs, underground bar, and had a great atmosphere. well, it did last time i was here.. and now i'm here to stay, i plan on going back for more! it's fairly lively, people talking and drinking, and cheering on the jazz...

Quasimodo - Kantstrasse 12a - is an excellent venue, most nights devoted to jazz.
Lavender Rain
Quasimodo is on summer vacation. Wanted to go there last weekend but they were closed.
