"The Bavarian Parliament passed a law that allows Bavarian police to place 'Remote Forensic Software' on a suspect's computer as well as on the computers of a suspect's contacts. They may break into houses in secret to install the RFS if a remote installation is not possible; and while they are there a (physical) search is permitted too. The RFS may be used to read, delete, and alter data." The translation says that RFSs may be used in cases of an "urgent threat to the existence or the security of the Federation or a country or physical, life or liberty of a person... Even where there is a reasonable assumptions on concrete preparatory acts for such serious offenses.

That Register article is based on the original Heise.de article from four days ago, they even link to it in the first paragraph.
The Register has either accidently mis-translated the original, or they've deliberately mis-quoted it for sensational effect.

Damn, the government has the right to break laws and illegally enter your home?
Sounds typical Bavarian: birthplace of national socialism. No wonder the rest of germany doesnt take them seriously.

I no longer think the USA evil for Patriot Act...they just caught up with the rest of the world, realizing how much wool a government can pull over the citzen's eyes.
