Google Street View likely coming to Munich soon

Car seen driving with tripod camera on its roof

I saw it yesterday driving down Hüfelandstrasse (Near BMW FIZ).

Looked exactly like this one spotted in Seville recently...

Street View Opel Astra filmed in Sevilla

Anybody else here spotted it?

I´ve seen the Googlemobil at the Sonnenstraße near Stachus this midday. It was the same car as in the video above.
Sari
I saw it on Wednesday at Neuperlach Zentrum.

Did the Munich car have a short pole and small camera on top, or a tall pole with what looks like lots of gear?

The smaller pole'd cars only have a 360 camera, the newer "Big pole" setup also contain 3d Laser Scanners
So they can make the images 3D in Google maps.

Neither...

I saw 4 cameras at 90deg angles and one above that.
Essentially the same as on the video from Seville.

According to BBC News the photographing of the UK is believed to have started this week: Google Street View in the UK

So I suppose it's likely that Google have now started their data collection across all of Europe.

There's a question mark, however, about whether Google's system will fall foul of European privacy laws. See the above BBC News link.

Who here would be happy to see their image show up in Google Street View?

What about if you were doing something embarassing at the time, like heading into a brothel?

Do you do that Editor Bob head into brothels? no really I thought this was also banned because of the Privacy act and so on ?
Sari
It was the big pole camera I saw.

According to this article in the SZ, Google are photographing streets in Germany with the help of a camera mounted on an Opel Astra. Certain people aren't impressed because it contravenes data protection. Have you seen this car? I've seen it on Bayerstrasse and Hackerbrücke already recently.

I saw it last week twice - once on Ingolstadterstrasse and once somewhere else that I can't remember.

waste of time. they said they'd be blanking all the faces out cool.gif

I'd want my face on there so I could sue them. Not sure my arse is so easy to identify.

Edit: Beaten by a few seconds there...

I think that Rottenneighbor.com originally allowed German posts, but appear to have gotten into some trouble.

Either that, or they've just read TT and correctly concuded that "rotten" is the default setting for all German neighbors smile.gif

Probably complains about EB's arse?

I was only in Munich for 3 days and I saw it...Leopoldstrasse

I just noticed today that they have released street view for Australia. I am absolutely amazed at how much they have done. I would say over 95% of roads in Australia have been done, including towns that must not contain more than 10 people in the middle of nowhere.

I typed in my sister's address in Sydney and was amazed! It was a shot of her house! The shot was so good that had she been standing at her window, I would have been able to see her!

saw it twice, once by schellingstrasse and the other time at the universitätsbrunnen - swung my arms wildly at the camera both times. People closeby didnt recognise the car and thought i was crazy. :-D

I can say that Google street view is a great idea. As for the invasion of privacy, here in Australia, you can contact Google if you see yourself in images and don't want it displayed and they can take whole sections away from the map or blur you, whatever you decide, to keep you happy. It is a great help as whenyou are travelling far away, for me, travelling to Sydney or Canberra etc, I can see the exact house and/or building I am looking for within a street when numbers aren't around, much like my street. On the Google maps and Google Earth, my town is blurred, yet on Google street view, clear as day;

I hope that it is released for Europe before I embark on my journey as to see what I am expecting rather then what photographers want me too see.

I spooted the beasty a couple of weeks ago, on the 96 Autobahn between Graefelfing and Wessling heading in direction Lindau
sparty
I saw it a couple of times in the early morning parked in front of the Augustiner Beergarden on Arnulfstrasse.

The car was parked nightly several times in Laim, Agnes Bernauer Str. and Friedheimerstr. Impossible to miss.
