So me and my boyfriend are thinking about adopting another black lab. We were wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to find puppies for sale (dog shelter, freelance or whatever). If you know a good place to check out please let me know biggrin.gif thanks

Well I could give you the web addresses of some good dog charities (hunde E.v.) that my gf works for but i cant guarantee that they will have a black lab, but they have lots of lovely dogs looking for a home ( I should know our 2 dogs come from the streets ( one from portugal, the other from hungary)), it can be expensive ( about €250 for the dog) but you could be saving a lovely dog from a life of misery on the streets or in a pound or even death.

i would love the web address, you can post it here or in a private message, whichever you would like smile.gif

how is 250euro expensive for a dog?
they generally (not always, but most shelter and rescue dogs do) come fully vetted or at least with some vet work done.
Plus getting a dog from a breeder will be a lot more thatn 250euro!
Madcat
from what i have seen all these dogs come chipped and with a pet passport plus all injections.

and to some people 250€ is a lot of money.

if you can't afford 250euro for the dog when it comes fully vetted then you can't afford the dog.
You'd be paying more in vet bills alone getting a dog from a breeder not counting the cost of the dog than you are getting a 250euro dog from a shelter/rescue.

Yes, 250 is a lot of money i get that, but saying that it is an expensive price for a dog... that it isn't since if it's coming vetted then it's basically a dog (and possibly some of the vet cost) for free! Or paying for part of a dog and getting all vet work and part of the cost for the dog for free.. pretty good deal!

ah ok i understand now, have asked gf for websites that she reccomends and will post later tonight.

Start off by calling up or visiting the Hamburger Tierschutzverein.

If they don't have any dogs you like, move on to the Franziskus Tierheim (Bund Gegen Missbrauch der Tier)

If there's still nothing, then try ABC Tierschutz

Also scan the local little newspapers for folks who might be looking to rehome their dog for various reasons.

Then there are all the organizations that help dogs outside of Germany. We got one of our dogs through Tierhilfe Antalya. Unfortunately they are currently revamping their web site so there isn't a lot to see there.

I've never really calculated my monthly cost for our two terriers, but it easily adds up. Food, treats, collars and equipment, training & transportation, vet fees and medicines/tick treatments, doggie haircuts at the salon, etc. Oh, and mustn't forget the chewed and damaged pillows, blankets, flower beds, and bras (long story dry.gif )

Good luck!

I worked for a major pet food store and trust me i can tell you how much it costs to keep a dog, you can easily spend 50-60€ just on a sack of food and over 150-200 for a bed

That is nothing for a dog. If a dog gets sick a single vet bill can be 250 Euros. If a dog needs surgery it can cost thousands. Considering these very common expenses, I doubt anybody would have a problem paying that small amount to rescue a pet (or even saving that dog's life).

I'm all for rescuing a dog from a shelter if you are not too picky about age etc... But under no condition buy a dog from a private person who just decided to let his male dog hump his female dog for a quick buck. If you don't end up succeeding at shelters, you should consider a reputable breeder. Buying from random people has made a lot of peoples' lives miserable.

Good luck finding the new puppy!
