Good evening everyone,

Anyone know of a cheap B&B or guest house type thing in Darmstadt?
I need to book one for my house hunting trip in August and I can't find anything that is a sensible price.
Doesn't need to be plush or anything! But it does need to be within a sensible walking distance of the train station and Johannesviertel as my 72 yr old mum is coming with me and she doesn't cope with hot weather too well.
Everything I find via google seems to be either miles away or expensive.
Urgh, I wish I had time to learn some German :-(

Thank you in advance!

Roz.

Bed & Breakfast Darmstadt ... Hotels Darmstadt

Hello Miwild,

I've tried the former - couldn't find anything in the right area, but I have emailed them just in case.
Hotels are too expensive.

Thanks anyway,

Roz.

Hi Roz -

how long do you need the room(s) and what counts as too expensive? There is the ACHAT Hotel just at the start of Griesheim. The tram goes past the door so it's an easy trip to the station and other parts of Darmstadt. Invest in a week-long tram/bus ticket and you can visit most of Darmstadt easily enough. The Achat is nothing very exciting but it used to be OK priced and some of the longer term rooms have cooking facilities. Otherwise the IBIS hotel in Darmstadt used to be one of the cheapest - close to the centre and not too far from the station. Again, the tram isn't far away. A quick look online suggests these are around 55- 65 Euro per night per person in a double room... but I didn't look hard for better online prices. They're probably lower over weekends when the conferences aren't on.

Another one in Darmstadt that used to be a favourite for guys starting work where I am (and maybe still is) was the Weinmichel (fuill name is Add on Hotel Weinmichel I think). They did cheaper prices for longer term stays.

Darmstadt is a pretty expensive part of Germany so the hotel costs are quite high. I haven't really heard of any B&Bs in the area. It's more a business destination than a tourist one.

Here's a link to Griesheim hotels as there are some cheaper options there:

Good luck!~

Another idea- cheap ebay vouchers for hotels for the weekend... although you might need cheap car hire too to make it work or take a train from Frankfurt to Darmstadt...

Hello,

My mum and I are just staying for two nights mid-week in the middle of August. It's for my flat-hunting trip.
I couldn't imagine paying more than £40 per person per night for bed and breakfast in the UK, so something along those price lines would be cool.
The flights I have booked were £120 per person, so then it would be about £200 in total each, which sounds about right.
Location is important as we will be viewing flats all day in Johannesviertel, and then will have dinner in the centre I guess. Don't want to spend too much time travelling to and from our digs.

The IBIS hotel looks okay, however. Kasinostrasse is a pretty good location.
Thanks a lot for your help. Some good leads to follow up :-)

If you as assuming sharing a room, then 100 Eur (2*40 GBP * 1,25) will easily find you a decent hotel.

IBIS is fine (and you can book it online). So are many others in that range.
