Note: one need not put aside one's disgust with the actions of the U.S. government regarding the so-called War on Terror to attend this event.

regarding the 4th- I think the opening ceremony is closed to the public. Bush & Merkel will be there. Saturday the 5th is open to everyone.

Anyone hearing anything regarding added security measures. I do not want to be wanded, patted down and otherwise searched just to "celebrate" the 4th.
Just typing that makes me peeved. Nevermind.

It is the old bush, as in Bush senior that is coming to open the
ugly building. not the present one.

I would assume the wanding and pattting down would occur for those only entering the embassy for the opening ceremony. I can't see Merkel and Bush Sr. doing an exterior appearance as that area is way too hard to control and do a clean security sweep/lockdown, and would have to stay locked down until they leave.

I'm in agreement with you Vince.
Also, looks like I'll be there for a while tomorrow - signing up voters and maybe helping with some Obama buttons and stuff as part of the Democrats Abroad...
Happy Independence Day, y'all.
