Money transfer from Germany to Australia

wondering if anyone has transfered to Australia? my bank here is sparkasse.

Yeah, I've transferred money to Australia, but not from the Sparkasse. You need to get the IBAN and BIC/SWIFT codes, just like you would need them for transfers within Europe.

I've just logged into my Sparkasse account and can transfer Ozzie Dollars online so clearly not an issue. When in the bank the only decision to make is who picks up the charges. I normally opt for SHA to share the costs (I pay my bit and they pay a bit at the other end) but it depends if you are trying to ensure an EXACT figure hits the account (inc any charges) at the other end. But its all easy with Sparkasse.

p.s. You dont need a full IBAN - it will accept account number and sort code.

so if i'm sending from my account here, to my account there, then spliting the fee means i pay half here at sparkasse and half back home at commonwealth? i'm not sending a huge amount or anything - no more than 200euro. i've heard that the fee is about 25euro, but this sounds high... i'd be really stupid to post a hundred dollar bill directly to my mum wouldn't i... lol, that is what she suggested... i'd go to the bank and ask if it didn't routinely shut while i'm still at work!!

If you are sending money regularly to Australia then I would suggest to use OZFOREX (www.ozforex.com.au) I have been using them for a while now and transaction fees are quite fair for me. Although it takes a week or so to open/activate an account with them but once done, I can transfer money online to my commonwealth bank account . Hope that helps!

Hello Invincible, Just curious about Ozforex. Are you sending money to an Ozforex Account in Germany? Then it would be just a normal inland bank transfer for the Euros (with less bank charges) or are you sending Euros to their main account in Sydney? Then the local banks here would slug you for the international transfer...

I do the transaction using my Sparkasse Net Bankingt to transfer Ozforex account in Paris (Bank Name: Barclays Bank Address: 183 Avenue Daumesnil 012 Paris France Account Name: UKForex Limited) and in 3 days or so I can see the amount in my Comm Bank account. AFAIK, for these transactions to their account in Paris, I have not been asked for any fees by Sparkasse.

If you want to send money to somebody instead of a bank - I sent €200 via Western Union Reisebank - €19 processing fee, but the rate was reasonable (AUD 319). For some reason my bank (Commerzbank) told me that they can't transfer money overseas - and I should go to Reisebank. Is this normal or was there some massive misunderstanding on my behalf?
