Hi
This week's Asian restaurant will be
Sushi & Work in
central Stuttgart.
Meet this Wednesday outside the restaurant by 7:30. As usual, send me a private message if you want to swap mobile numbers otherwise just turn up and hover outside. At 7:30 we'll be inside - listen out for the English speaking group and/or ask everyone if they're called Adrian ;) The more the merrier! Newbies wanted.
Please post to this thread if you're coming! It bounces the thread in the "recent topics" list and encourages others to come along.
This place took me a while to choose. I initially wanted
Kicho but the prices put me off. Then I was recommended
Fai Sushi but I didn't want a conveyorbelt place. I'm not a fan of them and as was pointed out in the
"sushi in Stuttgart" thread, conveyor belts aren't conducive to groups of people having a chat. As you can see, I'm enjoying TT's "link" option today ;)
The address (given in the google map link above) is
Sushi & Wok
Schulstraße 9
70173 Stuttgart
Germany

Great. It (not me, I'm blameless of course) deleted the "7" from the title. It should say 7.30pm.
And, for some reason, I can edit my post, even delete it, but I can't change the topic title. Can some long timer please add the "7"? Thanks!

Excellent I hope the both of you come along! Crazyfrog as long as you don't go "rrring riingringinrignrignringring" all evening then your conversation skills will be fine. And as I don't speak any German, you'll have plenty of chance to practice your English ;)
7:30pm lost-aussie! Tell them you're jetlagged or something - they'll let you go ;)

hey!!
sushi sounds great. i'm in the midst of moving n stuff so i'm not 100% sure i can be there, but most likely. also, i don't know if any of you have been to that restaurant before, but it is very small so i would *highly* recommend making a reservation. they also have pretty good thai food. i can't vouch for authentic, but definitely very tasty!

hopefully see you tomorrow

Hey Adrian,

Sorry about last week... Chris REALLY wanted to go to Schlossplatz last week and forgot to tell me that he already replied to the thread. See you tomorrow!

No problem! Seems like there's going to be loads of us tomorrow. I'll take Tatjana's advice and book a table tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Hi everyone! Is there still room for one more to butt in?

I'm new to the forum and happen to love Asian cuisine.

Yes! I've not booked yet ... about to do so.

ok - booked for 10 people under my name (which is Adrian, if you are really really bad at guessing stuff). It sounds like a very small place as the person taking the booking was a bit shocked and then said it's likely we'd be split over two or three tables.

yah I'd figured

. I'm Emily, which you couldn't get from "lime jello" without being dyslexic and even then it's a stretch. I'm scheduled to be off from work tonight so, barring a surprise call from my boss, I'll be there. Probably quite early in fact, as I'm catching the S from Backnang and it only comes around twice an hour.

Thanks everyone for turning up! There were 11 of us this time. Excellent (Mr Burns style).
Lovely weather and two outdoor tables made for a good evening. The sushi/nigiri was good but expensive. I've been told all sushi is expensive in Germany (compared to London, anyway) and it was the going rate. I had a decent selection, and the fish was good quality. I also (I'm greedy, ok?) ordered another dish which was excellent. The restaurant seems to serve Thai food, plus sushi/sashimi/nigiri etc rather than any other Japanese food. I'll have to try somewhere else for the standard japanese stuff such as Katsu Don, miso soup, ramen etc.
Despite the fact many of the restaurants we've been to so far have had a Thai section on the menu (it seems that everywhere here has to serve Thai food to be accepted by the Germans! Or maybe it's because Thai food is actually quite easy to cook), next Wednesday's meal will be Thai.
Any recommendations? If I was picking for just myself I'd probably just go back to Sushi & Wok again, and stick to the Thai section of the menu, but we want to try somewhere different, obviously.

Was indeed a fun evening! I'd however recommend to my female comrades to avoid the big-sized sushi pieces. Being the delicate creatures we are, without knives available, we're stuck with trying to fit the whole thing into our face at once. Doable certainly, but not particularly attractive

.
Here out in the wilderness of Backnang is a very good and very cheap, though very small, Chinese place. Not Thai themed but does have a small Thai section of the menu, as most do. I think it's a bit too much of a trek for most though!

30 min with the S-bahn from Stuttgart.

I've had quite a bit of Mexican food in London and I'm sure many of the Californians here have eaten it by the bucket load! However, I'd like to try it here.
Can't be on Asian Night though unless there's been some continental shift I haven't read about ;)
So, you can pick a night and invite us! Oh, and it still shows here as
crazyfrog.
I loved Sushi but it is so expensive here, I always need to control a bit when I am eating outside.Sigh...I'd better made it myself. It's not going to be a lot of options but at least I can make my favor(s) and eat as much as I can, Hah.
Sushi is expensive anywhere but Hong Kong. One dish(two pieces) of Nigiri Salmon Sushi is around 18HKD(1.4Euro) in a normal restaurant, 50% off during week day lunch time. I miss the amazing weekday lunch set so much! 36HKD(10% off for student) per set, includes Noodle(3 or 4 options, all good) and 6 pieces of sushi !

Yeah, HK is good value for anything with seafood. Shanghai isn't bad, either. Singapore also has good value sushi but I'm usually too busy eating other stuff there. Even London (such as Brewer Street W1 where most of the Japanese restaurants are) is a third cheaper than here. But that's just the way it is. I'll stick to having sushi elsewhere. Your place seems the best, Kit!
Where do you get your tuna from? And where's my invite? 我饿了! ;)
I have no way to get the tuna. I made Maki-zushi with pickles and Nigiri with salmon. A bit too boring to make invitation... But surely you are welcome~
