World War II medals

Where to buy them?

I collect soviet awards and I was wondering if there is any place in particular that is a good place to look in Munich, or else in the surrounding cities?

I'm sure there are other people who collect medals and other militaria from WW2 on this forum, although I'm probably unique in collecting stuff from the former soviet states, which, BTW, includes the former DDR.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Try the army surplus store on Arnulfstr near the junction with Paul-Heyse-str. I seem to remember there being another one on Dachauerstr but I can't remember where exactly. Also there was a little shop at the front of Hauptbahnhof which deals primarily in stamps. I think they may also have medals. Last suggestion from me would be to check out the various weekend flea markets that are on around the place. You'll find information by using the search function on the site.

I remember walking past a shop a couple years ago down near the area where the Hofbrauhaus is and seeing some coins and things in the window. It looked like a place that would definitely have medals as well. It stood out to me, because they had little white circle stickers on them which I can only assume were covering the swastikas. I've been meaning to go back and find that place for a long time, because a friend of mine back home collects WWII stuff. Sorry I can't be specific, but at least that gives you the general neighborhood.

probably not swastikas. It's illegal to possess nazi stuff in germany. DDR stuff used to be pretty common on eBay.

There are a number of shops in the area ipj mentions particularly around Tal . Westenriederstr. in particular has a couple. I think they call themselves Antiques / Antiquitäten shops

I collect as well.

Curious if anyone has ever went eastward (Poland, Balkans) and what is the availability of WWII militaria is in those areas? I would like to go to Kiev and Stalingrad areas as well one day. Anyone ever been there as well?

I primarily collect Wehrmacht and US of that time. (weapons, uniforms, etc...).

@IS - Are you sure it's illegal to own the stuff? I thought it was just illegal to display it, hence the white stickers.

@scook17 - Have you ever checked on ebay? There's a Sammeln & Seltenes > DDR & Ostalgie section.
