American Citizens Service Moved from Duesseldorf to Frankfurt

As of July 2, 2007, American Citizen Services for North-Rhine Westphalia will be provided by the Consular Section of the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt

Ok, so I am slow, I only noticed today when going in to get a new passport.
This was a cost-cutting measure from DC, perhaps to pay for a new jeep in Baghdad

Now I have the choice of either Frankfurt, with a waiting list of 300 to 400 (according to informed sources)
or Amsterdam.

Yeah they closed the citizens services in Hamburg so if you need something you need to take an early train to berlin so you can go to that consolate and meet their generous opening hours of 8-12.

Yup, it's a real pain. Especially since you really have to be there early to get anything accomplished. And you have to drive around Köln, which is not real fun in the morning. We ended up going between Christmas and New Year's hoping that traffic would be bearable.

Oh, they're closed some Thursdays, too. Your tax dollars at work...

With that much hassle, can't it be renewed by mail instead?

by mail? And pass up a reason to go to Amsterdam? cool.gif

Unfortunately/luckily I have no experience at US consulates, but I can definitely recommend Amsterdam, my hometown for over 5 years before I came to Cologne :-D
By car or ICE train it is only 2,5 hours away.
