Making an Oktoberfest reservation in June

Is it too late to reserve a table now?

missamerica
I have been reading through some older posts regarding Oktoberfest reservations...is it true that it is impossible to get a reservation this late?
We are only 2, and we can go during the week and during the day...but last year we did not have reservations and it was difficult to find a place in the tent we liked (Augustiner)...and we had to vacate when the people with reservations turned up...
Anyone have advice or would like to sell us 2 places at their table. We are in town the first week only.

You can only reserve tables of ten, so it's irrelevant to you anyway. If there are only two of you and you're going midweek, then it really shouldn't be a problem finding seats. It's just a question of getting there early enough. But seriously, with two people it's easy. You just need to spot the free seats (there can be ten people on one table) and then having the balls to march up, smile, and say "May we be sitting here, pleeze ja?"

Or take a look at the exchange, you might find what you want or at least something similar.

If you are Miss America I am sure I can squeeze you in somewhere.

Corrected that for you, JE.

Reminds of the classic about George Best (legendary footballer and playboy for the non-Brits):

[size=2]The ultimate laddish tale tells of the night when a waiter delivering champagne to Best's hotel room saw thousands of pounds of casino winnings and the current Miss World both arranged tastefully on the bed.

[size=2]The scene prompted the legendary question: "Mr Best, where did it all go wrong?"

Well, I am not exactly Miss America (at least not anymore) and also, I will be with my husband! :-)
Thanks for the info...
Last year we arrived at the tents around noon and found it hard to find a place. We finally got an invite from a guy who had a reservation for 5 pm. We left when his guests arrived. We were drunk by then anyway!

Noon at the weekends may be a little tricky if it is a popular place and especialy if the weather isn't too good.
Noon during the week should be fine to get 2 places at a table, either those totally unreserved or go on a table that is reserved after X and go then.

It sounds like you should have tried another tent if the one you went to was already full at noon on a week day. I usually get there about 2 - 2:30 during the week with my mates and we always find a place after trying a few tents. Augustiner and Löwenbräu tents always seem to fill out first, but there are loads more to choose from and they are all much the same, especially after the second beer.
missamerica
Actually we did try several tents. We like Augustiner, that is why we want a reservation there...

We all like Augustiner, which is probably why you won't get a reservation there.
missamerica
That's very helpful, leky, thank you.

Actually, we would reserve a table for ten and then just invite some folks to join us. The question was: is it true that it is impossible to get reservations this late?

Never mind.

If all you want is a specific answer to the specific question then the answer is no, nothing is impossible. Highly unlikely in most cases...you personally may not have a snowball's chance in hell...etc, but it would not be true to say that "it is impossible to get reservations this late".

If you'd like to know whether or not it is possible for you to get a reservation this late then you need to enter into the discussion, deal with the banter, answer questions posed and hopefully tease out the answer relevant to your specific circumstances. Or you can just flounce off in a huff as you appear to have done with your "Never mind" comment.

Reserving a table requires you to purchase 2 mass and 1 half chicken for each person. So to reserve a table costs around 300 euros.

You are a tourist, you have the whole day free when you are here. You have already stated that you are just 2 people and you can go in the week. You couldn't be in a better position and will simply have no problems. This issue doesn't have to be discussed further. Leave the reservations for the people that actually need them.

You're so, so right. How foolish of me to think that people who LIVE in Munich would know whether the tents are indeed sold out already. And what a crazy idea to think that LOCALS would know how to procure a reservation if indeed the reservations are sold out at the breweries.

Answer the questions posted? What questions? I don't see any questions except my own. Banter? Is that what you call it? Like the person who thinks I do not have any business getting a reservation because I am a "tourist". What kind of nonsense is that? That is not banter. It is a telling-off.

We have been to Oktoberfest every year since our honeymoon. And yes, since we do not live in Germany, that makes us "tourists" (am I supposed to apologize?). We know that reservations are sold in lots of 10, we know that it is busier at night and on the weekends...I did not ask about any of those things. I did not request a primer on Oktoberfest.

I simply read on some old, old threads that the tents were sold out as of January or February and became alarmed.

We know the tent we want to visit and the times we want to be there...what we don't want is to wander around hoping someone will let us sit with them (as we have done in the past) and we don't want to leave at 3 or 4 in the afternoon because the rest of someone's table has arrived. We arrived at noon on a weekday last year and had a very hard time finding a place for 2 and we had to vacate at 4 when the reservation showed up. So, that is why we want our own reservation. Is it really that hard to comprehend?

I will now flounce off in a huff and call Augustiner myself to reserve my place, if there are any places left. We will give away the remaining tickets to some other tourists as we meet them.

Thank you all for your kind and insightful advice.
