such a stupid question doesnt even deserve an answer

Make sure to bring lots of adapters, and bring lots of regular phone cord wiring so you can get dial-up even. You'll never get ISDN here...you'll have to do like everyone else and use one of the turkish call shops for internet access.

You may want to post your question again during working hours. Most people in this country don't have internet access at home. smile.gif

But they do have comfortable taxis ...

Steve, don't expect sensible answers for a couple of weeks, as we have to post all our replies by carrier pigeon, send them back to the uk

Yeah but don't have that horrible urban sprawl stretching from Basingstoke to Letchworth either.

Allow me to insert a moderately serious answer.
Internet services are far and away better than in the UK, which by comparison is a third world country. VDSL speeds of up to 50Mbits are available in many areas. ISDN is no longer really a viable contender for internet provision, but is a an excellent and popular service for multi-channel domestic telephone (i.e. many numbers in each house) at little additional cost so is very popular. However there are a myriad of providers and control over them, or their services (in particular customer service) is many times worse than UK, so can be difficult to arrange, change or deal with problems.
TV services are in a different league to UK . Digital (DVB-T) services are the norm in most suburban areas with 24 free channels or more available. Cable services, both analogue (about 30 channels) and digital (over 200) are widely distributed in cities. Free-to-air digital services (over 200 channels) are available country-wide over satellite.

This reply is brought to you over a totally crap analogue dial-up connection in UK at a location where broadband is not available, ISDN is unreachable, UMTS has not been heard of, GPRS is unreliable, and WiFi is a dream. As a comparative guide I never experienced such deficiencies anywhere in Germany
sir realist
what on earth is the internet

it's one of those compound German words, meaning when a tennis player hits the ball in-der-net.

the TV services may be tip top but the TV content is for the mst part Scheiß unless you can get UK or French TV via satellite or cable.

200 channels and nothing to watch. Real shite!
But internet services is good!

Value for money is very poor in Germany, imho. In France you get unlimited internet access, television and unlimited phone calls to all of W. Europe and the US for €30 a month!

with which provider? Francetelecom is certainly not offering any such deal.

Orange has a deal with France Telecom. Neuf and Free are the others...

As usual, the real answer is: it depends on where you are in Germany. Big cities and dense population areas are more likely to have all the bells and whistles. Move to a small rural village and you'll be lucky to get DSL1000 available only from DT, and no cable so TV only via antenna or satellite. I'm not complaining too much though. 4 years ago I was living just outside of Reutlingen and could only get ISDN from DT. All other providers in my area were dial-up.

Yes, the only thing 'on-line' in most of Germany is clothes drying. Awful place, very backwards.
