I'm happy to have found this site at the recommendation of a friend. I formerly lived in Germany, 91-93, whilst a poor soldier in the Army. Learned a little German, but mainly discovered that I loved Germany--as well as Europe. I try to come back once a year, and will be there this September.

My home was Giessen, and I developed great affection for Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, and the Alps.

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Cheers! laugh.gif

Don't take it personally. smile.gif Ch's post and BTC's reply were merged with your post into a single thread at some point. Welcome to TT.

Welcome, Swizzle, of course we want to see you there too. But you'll have to change your monicker to Prost or something more beer compatible.
Chanticleer, welcome back.

Thanks for the kind welcome! smile.gif

Hello Everyone,

I have never been to Germany, but I will hopefully do a semester abroad at some point during the next 2 years or so. I love reading all of the posts, and definitely enjoy seeing how anglophones blend in/deal with the day-to-day where they live throughout the country. I look forward to learning more about life in Germany through your eyes, and eventually coming over to join you all at some point! smile.gif

love from the U.S.,

Thanks for the kind welcome!

Welcome!

Btw, the folktale Chanticleer and the Fox is one of my favorites from my childhood. Surprised to see it as a nickname on a forum.

Hi there. I'm a Californian woman who has recently been flirting with a NRW German man on the internets. My German is really bad, so thank heavens for the Leo dictionary online, which gives great phrase. Anyhoo, going to meet him in December in Amsterdam. I've signed up here cause otherwise you can't use the search function. Else, I'd probably have been a lurker for a little while longer. Gotta look up "dating German men!" Bis spater!

Hey everyone!
Well, sorry I failed to introduce myself here before I made some posts, but might as well do it now anyways!

I'm an 18 year old American girl who has been in a long-distance, open relationship with a 20 year old German boy. We met while studying abroad and were close, but of course decided to just be friends when we both returned home... but emails evolved into instant messages which became text messages which ultimately transitioned to twice-a-week phone calls.
Now I will see him again in December when I travel through Europe on my gap year, and am looking forward to seeing his town, meeting his family, etc.! Of course this means that you all can look forward to me making a million threads like "What are middle-aged southern german's feelings on loose leaf earl grey tea?", and other subjective, obnoxious, and utterly unanswerable questions.
But I'll try to keep it down to a bare minimum smile.gif.

Hmm, quick facts: Teetotaler, vegetarian, avid traveler (have done two exchanges, one to Japan and one to India).
Oh, and I know I'm an American, however:
1.) I do not own a gun.
2.) I do know how to ride a bike.
3.) Yes, I understand that Neuschwanstein was the inspiration for Disney and not the other way around.

I look forward to learning more about German culture and you fine people! Peace.

Hello everyone.

I have lived in the Saarland, in Munich, in Hamburg and near Ludwigshafen. I have also worked in Berlin.

I love your site and wish I had seen it when I was based in the Federal Republic!

Although I am now back home in the UK, I do keep my eye in by watching tatort on Sundays and am currently watching tagesschau*. (I have satellite!)

I am interested in modern music, MG cars and nature.

*OK, I posted more quickly than expected!

Hello,
My German spouse and I are currently living in Oregon, USA. Soon our plans are to move to Germany. I have been learning the language and have done well with A-1. We are considering Bad-Wurt for our starting location. She being a German citizen and my being an American has solved some issues and invited others. I'll be posting a question in MOVING TO GERMANY after this brief intro.
Anyone and all who has my experiences or can help is greatly appreciated.
I can answer more questions later. Short and sweet of it all is that I'm very anxious and eager to relocate to Germany.
