Spread over three floors, from subterranean Bierkeller to first-floor restaurant, Zu den Zwölf Apostel is a town-centre brasserie (Hausbrauerei). It is breezily convivial and warmly welcoming. The Pilsner-style house brew comes in a choice of helles or dunkles and goes down quite easily. The food is honest and the portions large. Aside from the steaks and the (surprise, surprise) schnitzels, there are Yugoslavian specialities on the menu: pljeskavica (essentially a burger), cevapcici (essentially mini shish kebabs) and djuvecreis (vegetable rice). This Yugo theme extends to the drinks list which includes a selection of very drinkable Croatian wines and of somewhat less drinkable slivovices.

This is a nice wooden bar...love the interior design, all dark and cosy. Food is good and some traditional Hessen dishes on the menu. Reasonably priced and frendly, attentative staff who do speak English
