He was also in "Last of the Summer Wine", for the benefit of the middle-aged people among us and not the really old fogeys here on TT who remember "Are You Being Served".

92, not a bad age - RIP.

Trivia:

Mrs. Slocombe would call him Stephen when off duty!

He appeared in the Kenny Everettt show 4 times!

I think they "all did very well"

Ground floor perfumery,

stationery and leather goods,

wigs and haberdashery

kitchenware and food...going up

First floor telephones,

gents ready-made suits,

shirts, socks, ties, hats,

underwear and shoes...going up

Norman Collier has also popped his clogs, according to the Torygraph.

Hope he gets a better microphone up in heaven.

In the 1970s when "Are you being served?" was shown on TV and Cpt. Peacock appeared I remember confusing my then wife by saying Frank Thornton had previously represented The BBC* in its entirety.

*Another unforgettable role in an unbelievable ensemble.

Some friends of mine went to see Ken Dodd on the Saturday before Norman died, they had been chatting to Norman just before the show started.

RIP Frank & Norman
