What are your favourite restaurants in Frankfurt?

I will get the ball rolling:

1/. Buena Vista - good quality steak, tapas is good also and very reasonable price.

2/. Lieb und Seele - great hearty German style food with generous portions and very reasonable price.

I am a resident in Frankfurt for 5 years now and pretty much frequently attend these two!

1. Dim Sum Haus - amazing dim sum coupled with very nice service, what more could you ask?

2. Frankfurter Küche - great regional dishes with Frankfurt "grüne Sosse", laid-back and friendly atmosphere

3. Fontana di Trevi - classic Italian restaurant, excellent food and service

4. Lalibela Ethiopian - haven't been in a while, but is one of my favourite places for good Ethiopian with good service

1. Sushi Boy

2. Zum lahmen Esel

3. Weidemann

4. Turkish joint somewhere between Willy-Brandt and the station

5. Iimori upstairs - where the first-class ambience and complete absence of other customers makes up for the average fayre.

6. Die Linse at the Krebsmuehle (technically not in Frankfurt)

7. Jade on Moselstrasse (the green one, not the one of the same name directly opposite)

I am fond of many Frankfurt style restaurants and I base my rankings on how good their Grüne Soße is. Excellent service and a tasty schnitzel add plus points.

1. Dauth Schneider - Tasty grüne Soße, good schnitzels and fried potatoes, and the service is some of the best in Frankfurt. Friendly & helpful and the prices here are affordable

2. Atschel - Same as above but their schnitzels are sometimes better.

3. Schöne Müllerin - Great food, good grüne Soße and their fried apple rings are something special

4. Zur Sonne, Apfelwein Solzer, Malepartus, Leib & Seele are all good places to go, but nothing stands out in any of these that make me say, wow, you have to go there.

Here are some of my favorites:

Buffalo

http://www.buffalo-steakhaus.de/

Best steak in the city. Unlike the other steak restaurants in Frankfurt, Buffalo does their steaks on the grill and not in the oven. Don’t expect white table cloth or silver utensils. Buffalo is a no frills kind of place simply concentrating on serving fantastic meat. Skip the salad, appetizers and just go for the steak (filet is especially delicious), fries and their special onions. Getting hungry just thinking about it…Fortunately, I am going there again next week. Reservations might be necessary.

Higematsu

Very good Japanese food. It is again an easy going kind of place, with plastic flowers decorating the bar  Ask for a "special" menu with German translations and order a variety of truly delicious Japanese small dishes, kind of like exotic tapas. Try drinking sake from a square wooden box with a bit of salt on the edge.

Knoblouch

http://www.restaurantknoblauchfrankfurt.de/

Very cozy French bistro in Westend. They have a special menu at lunch and different one in the evening, which is always a good deal. In general, their French cuisine is simple, unpretentious and very yummy. I go there all the time for lunch and dinner. It’s a very small place though, so call ahead to reserve a table. Order a bottle of Château Lamothe Bergeron - Haut Medoc. If you do, please don't forget to invite me ;) And pack some cash with you, they do not accept any plastic.

Opern Cafe

http://www.operncafe-frankfurt.de/start/

An easy going place with good food and kitchen, which is open till 11 pm or midnight. I usually get something from their daily specials menu. Their Croque Monsieur sandwich, accompanied by a glass of wine is a nice little snack on the way home from shopping.

Silla (in Sachsenhausen)

Very good Korean barbecue. Don’t go there if you don’t like garlic :P

Speisekammer

http://www.speisekammer-ffm.de/

Excellent, traditional German food and a wonderful, leafy Beergarten in the Summer. It's really close to the bicycle path along the Nidda river. They open late in the afternoon at 6.00 pm and during lunch on Sunday. In Summer it is easy enough to get a place in the Beergarten, reservations might be necessary in Winter.

Isoletta

http://www.ristoranteisoletta.de/anfahrt/index.html

Good food and nice choice for Saturday lunch, when half the neighborhood goes there.

Bella Vista

Friedberger landstr. 95

Very good, uncomplicated Italian food. Love their melted cheese appetizer!

And last but not least, most places that serve Frankfurter Schnitzel (Schnitzel with Gruene Sauce).

The Italian restaurant Portofino in Nordend, next to Friedberger Landstrasse.

It first looks bad from the outside, so acts as a deterrent but the food is very good!

Blockhouse in Westend is good for steaks, good service.

The greek Parthenon on Kennedyallee is good

I've never liked Leib und Seele personally. I'll throw some of mine out there, in no particular order:

Snackpoint (Best Worscht). Not really a restaurant but simply the best Currywurst in Germany.

Holbeins: Great food, classy ambience. Good for dates

Jasper's: Great place to sip wines, French cooking. The owner is a great guy

Paris' Bar in Sachsenhausen. Small plates, quality ingredients, nice wines. Owner is a brilliant foodie.

Zum Bitburger: Average food but it's a broker hangout. Bitburger cooling system is worth seeing.

Mutter Ernst: Where bankers and brokers rub shoulders with construction workers. Old school grub. Get the Kottelet.

Gute Stute: Not a restaurant but a shithole divebar. I think they have potato chips. It's devine.

Buffalo: Forget the fancy steakhouses. Everything else about this dump is forgettable. The steaks are always perfect. Owner's a jerk.

Ivory Club: Exceedingly arrogant fatcat hangout. The food is excellent.

Restaurant Borussia: Insider tip.. Former rowing club. A bit shabby looking but the seafood is fantastic. Value for money $$$$

Pasta e Panini: Mama Mia type food. Very good.

Emma Metzler: Not cheap. Always good. Prixe Fixe is often good value.

Apple Wine Taverns:

Yes they're full of tourists.. but so what? My faves:

Gemalten Haus, Fichtekränzi, Zur schönen Müllerin, Adolf Wagner.

I enjoyed a burger at Die Kuh Die Lacht.

Also New China Town near the HBF is actually a decent Chinese restaurant.
