Update: The ski ramp will not come to Munich for the Winter 2004/5. It will, however, return in 2005/6.

There may not be any mountains, or indeed much snow, within the city of Munich itself. But that needn't stop you indulging in a bit of skiing or snowboarding practice. Austrian ski resort SkiWelt has brought a 1,000 square meter snowy ramp to the Munich Olympiapark. The ramp is 20 meters high and has a ski run length of about 100 meters. There is even a mini ski-lift to save you having to hike to the top.

Opening times:
Monday - Friday: 1pm - 10pm
Weekends and public holidays: 10am - 10pm.
Christmas eve and New Years eve: 10am - 3pm

Adult tickets are €8 for 2 hours skiing, €12 for a day ticket.

There is also a kiddies snow area which is open open daily from 10am till 3pm.

To get there take the U-Bahn U3 to Olympiazentrum. The ski run is located on Coubertinplatz.

There are Apres-Ski parties every Thursday organised by the Ski Club München. These run from 6pm till 11pm in the neighbouring ski hut. Entry is €5 for which you get mulled wine (Glühwein), Jäger tea, party music, and "a great deal of fun". Right.

Does anyone know whether the Salomon Winterwelt still exists?

Edit: Still takes place?

I don't think this happens anymore.. they were going to run a ski hill out at Frotmanning last year near the Arena, but I guess with the pathetic winter we had it just didn't happen
