We found it difficult to find a 'vegetarian restaurant' in Berlin, other than ethnic restaurants with vegetarian options. Seerose was highly recommended by a couple travel sites, so we decided to try it out. While we didn't know the area well, and it's off the beaten path of most tourist locations, it's easily accessible by the U bahn and from Mehringdamm station, only about a 200 meter walk.
They have a few outdoor tables, which I imagine would be fantastic in summer. Inside, they've decorated with antiques, large paintings on the wall, plants... comfortable and cute. Very casual, no reservations required. Actually, I'm not even sure they take reservations.
The food is all in a glass case for display, as well as a few cake/dessert options. Most people select a large or small plate, and then load it up with food. For a large plate, you select 3 hot entree options and for the small plate, you select 2. After heating the food, the owner will fill up the rest of the plate with lentil salad, chickpea couscous, lettuce, carrot/beat salad, or whatever you want. Of the food, we tried the vegetarian lasagne (OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!), a bean/celery mix, a bean/brussel sprout mix (also highly recommended!), and gnocci. Between 2 of us, we each has a small plate and it was plenty of food. For drinks, they serve tea, juice, bio-wine, coffee, etc.
Overall, we absolutely recommend this restaurant! On any return trips to berlin, we will definitely be back to eat. I dont care if I'm on the complete other side of town, I'd make a special trip for this place. The owner is super friendly, the location convenient to access, and all of the food divine. Dont miss eating here!
They also do party service.
