Wonderful Restaurant and Bar. With the minimalistic, exposed brick walls, dark grey painted ceilings and ducts gives one the feeling of being smack dab in the middle of Soho or Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Very friendly, multi-linqual service, dressed in New York black shirts and long black aprons. Great nuevo-continental-asian cuisine, with unqiue nuances pleasantly surprising guests. Pan seared sesame Yello fin tuna over sweet potato puree, grilled sirloin steaks in cabernet demi glace, truly inspiring hand patted hamburgers, etc. etc. Entree prices range from 10 - 24, average, but well worth that special evening out. The grahmm cracker crusted Keylime cheesecake is worth saving room! They also sport outdoor seating for people watching, just like in Manhattan. They easily accomodate larger parties, after work groups, functions, etc. The Thurs-Fri after work crowd is a mix of mid 20 to 30 somethings, international, young professionals on the take for chatting and/or flirting. The wall length bar is more than well stocked with libations to jump start any evening; and at times, one of the best places to sit and spark a convo with the bartender, Brian, the American owner or other interesting peeps. I recomnend!
Posted by: Chat_Capone at 12:20 pm on 12.Jun.2008Live in Berlin and from Chicago, I thought I would find a bit of home at Julep's only to be blamed and called names by the owner because his Debit/credit card machine wasn't working. He wouldn't cab me to the Deutsche Bank and/or pay the additional ATM fee and actually suggested I walk to the Ku'Damm to take cash out for him. His other option was to "leave something of value" to guarantee payment. It's the day after, he's had an envelope with the dinner amount from last night delivered today but it is a guarantee it will be the last time I step foot in this charming place. Nice way to do business. Welcome home.
