Vapiano is fun, tasty, and one of the cheapest eats in Düsseldorf. Pizza and pasta dishes range from 5 to 8 Euro. Although it is a chain with restaurants all over Germany, and soon to open in my hometown, Washington DC, it is a unique concept that sets it apart from any other pizza and pasta joints. There are pizza, pasta, salad/antipasto and drink counters at which you order your food and watch it get made. It is fun if you don't have the patience to sit down and let someone serve you. The pizzas are large and have a deliciuous crust. I love to drench my pizza with the spicy oil made available at each table.

It attacts a crowd, and at busy times you may get fed up with standing. You may want to take a friend so you have someone to talk to while waiting in line. It is family friendly in the sense that you can make a lot of noise and no one will hear you, the food is great for kids, and high chairs are available. But getting the stroller around is a bit of an obstacle.
