With temperatures in the lower 20's (April 14), it was time to open the Mannheim beergarten season. Lindbergh, at the City Airport Mannheim, was the first to come to mind.
A short jaunt from my hood (Schwetzingervorstadt), my first 0,5 l radler was in my hand, the cool sweetness flowing down my throat in less than 20 minutes. At 3,20 Euro (same for a Hefeweizen), I wasn't complaining. But if you're looking for a place to sit for hours on end, licking your fingers after eating a half of a chicken or nibbling on a pretzel, this is not the place for you.
There are no snacks on the menu; their "Tapas Platter" is a poor mix of chorizo slices, kalamata olives, a pot-pie sized Spanish-style omelet and sliced potatoes for 15,90 Euro for 2. On the other hand, their baked potato comes with ample Krauterquark and a small side salad for only 4,90 Euro (with salmon slices, add 1,50 Euro). Come here to dine, but not to hang out.
Their dinner menu offers a good variety of soups for under 5 Euro, starters like gambas in olive oil or carpaccio (8 and 11 Euro, respectively) and main courses such as different salads (all between 8 and 9,20 Euro), pasta (7 - 11 Euro) and other meat dishes (12,50 - 15,50 Euro). This is one pricey establishment.
There is ample covered seating; my guesstimate, for about 250 people. Apparently they do live concerts every Monday night.
