If you happen to find yourself in Basel, or indeed just on the German side of the border I would highly recommend the short cab ride to Lörrach to this Indian.
It is housed on the first floor of a very strange looking 1980s building opposite the Bahnhof but have a terrace outside where one can sit and admire the local youth. Inside it is classic curry kitsch.
The beer served is 'Lasser' which is seems to be the local brew and is drinkable, although no Augustiner. The food however is very good.
I have now been there three times and tried various different curries (Rara Ghosht - which I would highly recommend, Magh a Murgh (?) and Chicken Madras) and all have been very tasty. The restaurant runs a hotness rating of one to five and you can choose your heat for each dish. The three gives a decent heat without killing the tastes, the four is a good tear-jerker (goes well with the Rara Ghosht). The naan is good as well.
The mango lassi is very thick and very mango-ey and takes the heat out nicely.
I'd say this place rates with the best curry I have had in Munich and I think in England would be considered a good local curry house.
It almost makes Basel bearable.
