Set in a classic French bistro style, Binokel boasts to be the oldest of this sort of bar in Mannheim. Located for over 30 years on the Kapuzinerplanken smack dab in the middle of the quadrangles, the Binokel offers you a pleasant mix of breakfast (from typical set menus to put-it-together yourself picks), salads (basic leafy sort to the delicious "Chevre" or healthy "Florida" with turkey strips), snacks, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks galore. They even offer a small listing of whisk(e)ys - Scotch, Irish and single-malt. And when the weather is fine, there is ample outside seating.

My personal review: I was there with 5 others on a Friday night. Reservations are a must since seating in both sections is limited, even along the bar. Non smoking it was, cozy and surrounded by candles on 1 m tall candlesticks. The highlight of the evening: Live music - two men, a guitar and keyboard! The perfect compliment to a civilized evening with cocktails (Tom Collins for 5,90), sparkling wine and beer. Service was top.
Open 7-days a week from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. (Fri/Sat. til 2 a.m., So. from 10 a.m.), Binokel also has a cozy NON SMOKING section located on the bistro's entry level. Smokers and cigar aficionados (.80 cents for a cigarillo to 15,50 for a Cohiba Robusto) can enjoy the upper-level seating without bothering the other guests.
